Convert F100 steering box to Model A service
You can have an F100 steering box grafted onto your Model A steering column. You use the bottom half of an F100 steering column and weld the top half of a Model A column. I bought mine already done on Ebay. The seller thought it was an ordinary Model A column. A 2 tooth Model A column must be used. A two tooth column has a clamp to mount it to the steering box. The 7 tooth column is one piece.
This is the bottom of the 2 tooth column. It is clamped onto the steering box just like the F100 column is.
Here is the F100 steering box. Aa piece needs to be fabricated so a Model A light switch can be used. The pitman arm shaft end has to be machined from the F100 round splined shaft to Model A square end to mount the Model A pitman arm. Mounting plate holes have to be re-drilled to fit the Model A frame. Mounting plate needs to be machined to mate up with Model A frame as the angle is slightly out. Instead I added a small amount of bondo to the surface of the plate.
Cut off the top of the F100 steering shaft and discard. Cut off the bottom of the Model A shaft and discard. Weld together. Make sure the total length is right for Model A. Splined or keyed Model a shaft can be used.
My setup is for a keyed Model A steering wheel. However, a splined Model A shaft can also be used.
This is the end of the Model A steering shaft cover. A round shim has to be made to mate up with the F100 steering box. The F100 box mating shaft is smaller than the Model A shaft. This is the only modification to the Model A steering shaft cover.
